Hello World

Why we built Blue, and what we're setting out to do.

Hello World

I’m Manny, and today we’re launching Blue.

I’ve been running a design consultancy called Mäd out of Southeast Asia for the past few years. We work with clients across multiple countries — brands you’ve heard of, teams you haven’t. The work is complex, fast-moving, and messy in the best way. To manage it all, we’ve tried every project management tool out there.

They all failed us for the same reason.

The Heineken moment

The breaking point came when I found myself onboarding a consulting client — Heineken — to Asana for the third time. Not because they were slow. Because the tool was too complex. The interface assumed you already thought in sprints and subtasks and dependencies. My client just wanted to see what needed to happen next.

That moment crystallized something I’d been feeling for a while: these tools were designed for first-world knowledge workers who already live in project management software. They weren’t built for the other billions of people — the teams just starting their knowledge work journey, the businesses in emerging markets, the agencies juggling 40 client projects with a small crew.

There was nothing for them. Nothing simple enough to adopt in a day, powerful enough to actually run a business on, and affordable enough that it wasn’t a line item you had to justify.

So we started building it.

What Blue is

Blue is a project management platform built on three principles:

Simple. If a feature doesn’t make work tangibly easier, it doesn’t ship. We’d rather do fewer things well than overwhelm people with options they’ll never use.

Affordable. We’re self-funded. No VC, no board, no pressure to charge enterprise prices. We want teams of any size, anywhere in the world, to be able to afford this.

Flexible. No two teams work the same way. Blue adapts to how you work — not the other way around.

What’s next

We’ve been using Blue internally at Mäd to run our own projects. It’s the tool we wished existed when we were drowning in client work and clunky software. Now we’re putting it out into the world.

This is the beginning. The product is young, the team is small, and there’s an enormous amount of work ahead. But the mission is clear: build the simplest, most accessible way to organize work — for everyone, not just the Silicon Valley crowd.

Welcome to Blue.
